Our story
Why We Built Eva
From the clinician's chair and the treatment coordinator's desk
Eva was built inside a real dental practice, shaped by both the clinical reality of diagnosis and the coordination reality of getting treatment completed.

Dr. Dhanraj Budhai, Founder of Eva
Dentist, Clinic Owner, and Systems Builder
As a dentist, I know how much care, thought, and responsibility goes into a diagnosis. As a clinic owner, I also know how easily that diagnosis can disappear inside a busy practice.
A patient can sit in the chair, receive a clear diagnosis, understand that treatment is needed, and still leave without ever completing the care that would have helped them. Sometimes the reason is fear. Sometimes it's cost. Sometimes they need to speak with a spouse. Sometimes they simply didn't fully understand what was explained. And sometimes the practice loses the thread.
As a clinician, every one of those reasons matters equally, and each deserves empathy and a real answer. But as a practice owner, the last one bothered me most: losing the thread is the one failure the practice itself can fix.
At Smile Designers Dentistry, I kept seeing the same pattern many dentists quietly live with: the gap between diagnosis and treatment completion. The clinical need was real. The patient often had interest. The team wanted to help. But the process leaned too heavily on memory, manual follow-up, scattered notes, WhatsApp messages, spreadsheets, and people trying to hold too many open loops in their heads.
That gap costs patients the care they needed, and costs the practice the revenue it already worked hard to create.
When I spoke with colleagues, I realized this wasn't a Smile Designers problem. It was a dentistry problem. Practice after practice had built its own shadow system to survive it: a spreadsheet here, a notebook there, a reminder only one person knew about. That isn't a system. It's survival.
Eva was built to replace it.
Eva is the Treatment Completion Engine for dentistry: back-office intelligence designed to close the gap between the consult and the completed treatment. She helps capture the consult properly, turns the conversation into clear clinical notes, reads the patient behind the plan (ready, hesitant, unsure, worried about cost or fear or time), and tracks each case through its real journey so the team always knows the next step, who owns it, and what might cause it to stall.

I saw a different side of the same problem. Patients often left interested but not fully ready. Some needed more clarity. Some were worried about cost. Some wanted to talk to a spouse. Some just needed the right next conversation at the right time, and too often, that depended on manual follow-up and fragmented notes.
My part in shaping Eva came from that chairside-to-front-desk reality: the real questions patients ask, the barriers they face, the handoffs the team relies on, and the small moments where a case quietly moves forward or quietly disappears. Eva had to support not just the dentist's recommendation, but the whole human journey of helping a patient understand, decide, and complete their care.
Together
Eva was never meant to be another note-taker or a generic chatbot. She was built from two viewpoints that rarely sit in the same room: the dentist who diagnoses the care, and the coordinator who guides the patient through it. Along the way, Eva learned to tell a financial barrier from a value barrier, a fear barrier from an information one, and a true "no" from a "not yet" that simply needs the right next step.
Our promise is simple:
No diagnosed treatment should be lost to inaction, confusion, or friction.
Eva isn't built to pressure anyone. She's built around informed decisions, empathy, and patient autonomy, so every patient understands their condition, their options, and their next step. We started with the real needs of Smile Designers Dentistry. The vision is bigger: a Behavioral Operating System for Dentistry that helps any practice turn diagnosis into understanding, understanding into action, and action into completed care.

What we stand for
Three commitments that shape every decision
Eva is one opinionated product with a point of view. These are the principles behind her.
Clinical-first
The note comes first. Eva is built to make documentation more complete and more defensible, not to add screens, dashboards, or busywork between a clinician and a patient.
The clinician decides
Eva drafts; a human signs off. She never diagnoses, never prescribes, and never writes to your record on her own. The clinician stays in control of every note.
Built so nothing falls through
The promise Eva is built around: no diagnosed treatment should be lost to inaction, confusion, or friction. She's built to carry each case from diagnosis to done — keeping the next step visible for the team and helping patients understand, decide, and complete the care that's right for them. Through clarity, never pressure.
